The Long Drive North

As with anything brand new and custom built, Lucy was in need of a few small repairs and 2 exciting upgrades. This meant it was time for the long drive north to Drifter CamperVans in Detroit, Michigan. I am hoping to arrive in Detroit and have all the repairs/upgrades complete before the wintery weather starts. This Florida girl is not built for that.

I started my drive after dropping my youngest son off at the airport to return to his next phase of military training in North Carolina. It was a tearful goodbye, but I have peace knowing that he is pursuing his passion.

The first stop on the drive north was Trimble Park. This county park is situated on Lake Carlton just outside of Mount Dora, Florida. While I didn’t have time to explore the city of Mount Dora, I did enjoy walking through all the beautiful paths in this park. The park was recently impacted by Hurricane Milton. According to the ranger I spoke to, the park lost many old trees which was noticeable on my drive. However the staff has done an incredible job of clearing branches and debris so visitors can enjoy this beautiful park.

After Trimble Park I headed to Jacksonville, Florida. This was my first experience camping in a friend’s driveway. I was really proud of my parking skills and enjoyed the whole experience. I was in Jacksonville to go apartment hunting with one of my sons. He is getting ready to start school in the area in January, and I am so excited for his new adventure.

My appointment with Drifter Vans isn’t until the middle of November, so I am going to take my time traveling north. I am hoping to stop and enjoy the fall leaves in Virginia and do some exploring in Pennsylvania. Be sure to come back next time to see how that goes.

See you soon,

Heather
