Military Mom

My youngest son enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He actually left for bootcamp the same day I closed on our house, and he turned 18 on my first official day in Lucy. If you know anything about Marine Corps boot camp, you know that the only form of communication between you and your child is through handwritten letters. So, for the last 13 weeks my youngest son and I have been communicating through letters. Handwritten letters are no longer common, so communicating in this way has been very special. But, this weekend he graduated and I was able to see, hug, and spend time with one of my favorite people on the planet. It was a wonderful weekend.

There are no words for how proud of my son I am. He has dedicated his life to serve others, and I believe it is one of the greatest callings. He and his brothers are the best thing I have done in this life, and I feel incredibly lucky to be their mother. So, this weekend we celebrated my son’s graduation, his 18th birthday belatedly, and just spent time together as a family. It filled my mom heart with so much joy.

Only one of my kids has seen Lucy in person, so it was a lot of fun to show her off. They adopted her as the hangout spot to get a little time away from all of the adults that came to celebrate. The complimented her and gave her all the love she deserves.

From here I am headed home to South Florida to spend time with my son while he is on leave. I am learning quickly as a military mom to take advantage of every moment of leave my son has. So I am going to enjoy every second of family time, and I will catch back up with you all in a few weeks.
