My Beautiful Camper Van Lucy

I made it to Detroit!! I am so happy to finally be here to pick up my beautiful Lucy. Unfortunately, the trip to get here was absolutely exhausting and full of tons of ups and downs. It took me 5 days of driving through 9 states to make it here. There was bad weather, traffic, lots of mountain roads, 4 audiobooks, and

tons of coffee. along the way. But I finally arrived at

the warehouse at 8:30 am this morning for my big

van reveal.

After doing a ton of research on van build companies, I chose Drifter Vans in Detroit, Michigan for my build. They are an incredible company and I promise a future post is coming with all of the details about the build process. But, today is reveal day and that means I am feeling all the feels. Excitement, nervousness, fear, and joy. It almost seems surreal that this day is finally here.

When I arrived at the warehouse this morning I was taken back to the reveal area and shown my beautiful Lucy by Kim Lucine one of Drifter’s Co-Founders and Operations Manager. Seeing Lucy for the first time took my breath away. She was absolutely stunning!

After taking some time to just admire her, it was time to learn how Lucy worked. Kim spent the better part of the day walking me through all of her major systems and how to use them. It was a lot to take in, but the folks at Drifter were incredibly patient with me and by the end of the day I felt pretty comfortable. In case your are wondering here are the major build details about Lucy:

  • Lucy is built on a 2023 Ford Transit Van 250 extended with a high roof.

  • Lucy is powered by Lithium Batteries which can be charged by the Renogy Solar System, the van’s alternator, or shore power.

  • Lucy has a 25 gallon fresh water tank and a 15 gallon grey water tank with external heating to prevent freezing in the winter.

  • Lucy’s kitchen has an Isotherm drawer style refrigerator and Furrion stove/oven combo.

  • Lucy has a Trelino composting toilet and an outdoor shower.

There are so many more details about her interior and exterior that I promise to share during a more detailed tour, but those are the basics.

After my long day of learning the folks at Drifter helped me unload all of my belongings out of my rental car and allowed me to use their warehouse to start loading Lucy up for our first adventure.
