Lake Anna State Park

After a few nights at campgrounds along I-95 I headed west to Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia. This park was absolutely stunning. I arrived at the peak of leaf season which just added to its beauty. The campground and facilities were wonderful. Read my full review here for more details on the campground. But my favorite part was the miles of trails through the leaves and around the lake.

If you have been here for a while you know that I am still working on my confidence when hiking alone. The paths at Lake Anna State Park made that a lot easier for me. Most of the paths were clearly laid out with several sections paved. There were sections of trail in busy areas around the lake, followed by more desolate stretches. The combination allowed me to power through my fears for short periods of time in the more desolate sections and then relax a bit in the more public areas. As I write this post I can tell by the look on my own face that I’m actually comfortable and enjoying myself which is nice to see.

Unfortunately I was only able to reserve a few nights in this gorgeous campground. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy more of the leaves and hiking, but I am grateful for the time I had. Up next, Pennsylvania an experience I wasn’t expecting.

Happy Travels

Heather
