Beautiful Edisto
One of my very best friends from college has been going to Edisto Island, South Carolina with her family for years. I have had heard her mention it so many times, but I never bothered to look up anything about it. As I was traveling south for the holidays, I saw Edisto Beach State Park come up on the Campendium app and thought why not?

Wow! I cannot believe that I did not know that this beautiful gem existed. Growing up in South Florida I have seen first hand how our beaches and natural areas have changed over the years. Too many people, too many buildings, and not enough care for the natural world has lead to a significant decline in the health of our environment. It’s really sad and heartbreaking.
Walking down Edisto Beach took me back in time to the Florida I remember from childhood. The buildings were simple, there was a large natural area beachfront and throughout the marsh protected by the state park, and there was very little infrastructure other than the two lane road down the beach and a few side streets with houses. It was quaint and lovely.

I didn’t do very much research before my stay so I chose to stay in the marsh section of the state park campground. I chose it because it was cheaper, and while it was absolutely beautiful I wish I had paid a little more to be beachfront. Live and Learn. My full review of this beautiful campground is here.

I spent my few days on Edisto Island walking on the beach, walking through the marsh, and enjoying the trails in the park. It was a wonderful few days of quiet and nature.
Next up I am off to one of my old favorites, Savannah, Georgia and the beautiful Skidaway Island State Park.
Happy Travels,
Heather
