Moonshine Creek Campground

During my time exploring the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, I booked a week long stay at a beautiful campground near Sylva, North Carolina named Moonshine Creek Campground. This incredibly beautiful, quiet, and impeccably cared for campground is secluded in the mountains with easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The below review is based on my standard categories and review scale with 1 Lucy 🚐 being the lowest score and 5 Lucys 🚐🚐🚐🚐🚐 being the highest.

General Information and Contact Information

Name: Moonshine Creek Campground

Address: 2486 Dark Ridge Road Sylva, NC 28779

Website: https://moonshinecreek.com/

Sites Available: Moonshine Creek has 91 sites plus cabines. 54 sites have full hookups with water, electric, sewer and cable.

Outdoor Amenities/Activities: Moonshine Creek was an absolutely beautiful campground. The creek flowing through the middle of the park was the star of the show. My site backed up to the creek, and I was able to sit out in my camp chair and enjoy the water bubbling by every day. There were campers on the opposite side of the small creek doing the same, but I was totally comfortable with the company. The grounds were beautifully laid out and meticulously maintained. There were gravel road and paths offering plenty of walking options, as well as a beautiful yoga studio, sitting areas along the creek, a porch with rockers at the camp store, and even benches for sitting in the creek.

Bathrooms: There is one large bath house in the center of the campground with multiple toilet and shower stalls. In the center of the bath house is the laundry facilities with multiple washers and dryers available. Despite the campground being largely full when I was there, the bathrooms, showers, washers, and dryers were readily available. The facilities were kept meticulously clean.

Location: After making my reservation I received a detailed email with directions to the campground. Getting there was pretty simple with the exception of the final turn off of Highway 74. I was coming from Asheville and had to make a left off of Highway 74 going 55 mph downhill. It was a little stressful for a newbie. My recommendations are to just be aware that you need to slow down early and not let the turn sneak up on you. The campground is located 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway for exploring.

Community/Comfort: This campground was incredibly welcoming. The staff and other campers greeted and talked freely with everyone. Most campers had dogs and we chatted daily during our walks. As a single woman camper I felt incredibly safe and relaxed during my stay. Several other camper vans were there and it was nice to chat with them about their rigs.

Everything Else: The only real con for me was cell/internet signal. Cell signal for me was average (ATT&T) and due to the tree cover Starlink accessibility was limited at the sites by the creek. However, there are a few sites without tree coverage that would allow for Starlink. At the time of my visit, I was new to van life and didn’t think to book a site that would allow for reception. Live and Learn. The campground itself has a lot of great areas for sitting, walking, and just enjoying nature which I thought was amazing. The care with which the staff maintains the grounds and facilities makes it incredibly peaceful and beautiful. There were tons of families with kids that were able to play with each other which was fun to watch.

Overall I would rate Moonshine Creek as 5 Lucys 🚐🚐🚐🚐🚐.
